Best and Worst Flooring for Bathrooms

When choosing the flooring for any bathroom there are different things that you need to take into consideration and while there are many great flooring options that might suit you there are also some that you should avoid if you can.

Marble is a great choice if you have a little bit of cash to splash. It is durable, has good water resistance and is a luxury choice. It will last for many years once it is in place and will withstand a great deal of wear and tear.

Porcelain tiles are another good choice for a bathroom. They look very stylish, they are waterproof and they are also great if you are on a tight budget. Be careful when choosing these tiles as ceramic tiles are not the same as porcelain as they are not as waterproof – an essential factor for any bathroom floor.

When you are choosing your bathroom flooring you should be sure to choose one of the flooring tile or slab types because it is the most practical. There are other options but these may not be ideal for a bathroom. Carpeting, for example, is not great because if it gets wet it can take a great deal of time for it to dry out. If the carpet gets wet on a regular basis it can start to rot so it will not last as long as you want it to.

Solid hardwood looks great but only the top coating will give you any protection from the moisture that you get in a bathroom. If moisture gets it this will rot just like carpet would. However, it does look good and will help to create a warm feeling in the bathroom. To avoid any moisture getting in you need to be sure that there are no gaps which means that only professional installers should be used.
